Session with Datuk Vinod B.Sekhar on Entrepreneurship

A week ago, I went to attend a session with Datuk Vinod B. Sekhar on entrepreneurship. It was an open invitation by MYME (Malaysian Youth Movement and Entrepreneurs group).

Datuk Vinod sharing his experiences and thoughts.

Datuk Vinod shared his experiences on how he started to be an entrepreneur when he was still studying in one of the universities at US. He was on scholarship and and it was just sufficient to pay for his tuition fee and living cost. His father just provided enough for his flight back.

But Datuk Vinod wanted to have more money in order to have fun. So, he started his t-shirts business with merely USD50 and eventually it grows from one university to another. Datuk Vinod sold it off and turned millionaire at the age of 20. He became a Datuk at 26 and nearly bankrupt at 32 during the economy crisis.

Another picture of Datuk Vinod during the session.

Datuk Vinod also taught us about the value of life. He shared a story of his encountered with a spastic child when he was young. During one of his holidays, he helped his mom doing some charity work by playing with the down syndrome children. One day, he realised his money was stolen from his wallet each day when he was there. Datuk Vinod got angry and told his mother that those children are bad : "How could you help these people when they steal from you?". Before he left, the truth was revealed when Philip, the "thief" confronted him. Philip shown Datuk Vinod a collage and said: "I made this for you, I ran out of colored paper so I took some of yours." The collage, was a farewell present for Datuk Vinod and it was made with the cut up pieces of money Philip stole.

To Datuk Vinod, money is just colored paper.

A tool to invest, to spend and to donate to the needed one.

A One-Hundred-Trillion Dollar of Zimbabwe's money which is worth only RM0.05 !

Enjoy the rest of the photos taken during the session....

The Art of War lecture with Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat

Thanks to Michael Teoh, I was invited a week ago to attend and to be the photographer for "The Art of War" lecture / forum by Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat. It was a small event which was organized by AIESEC (the world largest student-run organisation) with the help of Michael.

This lecture was done at Starbuck, Bangsar Village 2. It is quite a conducive environment as that location is not as noisy and busy compared to other popular shopping malls such as Mid Valley and KLCC.

I have heard about Sun Tzu's The Art of War philosophy / strategy and wanted to learn more from an experience leader. I went there with an open mind right after work. The journey to the venue was quite depressing "challenging" especially when the whole LRT system was down, I have to wait for quite some time for the train arrival and walked a short distance under the light drizzling rain. Perhaps, I should have taken a taxi even I don't trust Malaysian's taxi.

I managed to arrive there just in time before the scheduled time. Since it is a norm to wait for VIP, Everyone mingled around before DS Ong Tee Keat arrived. Some managed to grab a few bites for dinner and some bought coffee to stay awake.

For those who do not know, Sun Tzu (Chinese pinyin: Sun Zi) was an ancient Chinese military general, strategist and philosopher during the King of Wu era (722–481 BC). He is believed to have authored an influential Chinese book on military strategy, known as "The Art of War". This book was written based on his proven strategies in battlefield, and it presents a philosophy of war for managing conflicts and winning battles. Ever since, this book has been widely adopted including the US marine corps !

Below are the shots taken during the event:

Recording in process....

Some brought their laptop and "tweet-ed" live.

You are on "candid" camera.

Some wrote down important notes during the talk.

Some participants originated from other countries.

In deep thought...  hopefully on Sun Tzu's The Art of War.

A participant listened carefully to the talk...

Everyone is given a chance to express their thoughts and to post questions to the speakers.

The forum speakers are listeners too..

Mingling session with exchange of name cards, opinions, and etc. among the participants.

It's my pleasure to meet two pretty Dutch who happened to be a student exchange for AIESEC's programs.

The 3 M: Michael Teoh, Marcus Lim and Mohd. Alif (current president of AIESEC).

Not forgetting a group photo with Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

It is wonderful to be there to listen to the experiences and the knowledge shared by the speakers. After all, it was nothing related to anything political. Besides that, I make many wonderful new friends there.

Last but not least, I had an opportunity to take a photo with DS Ong Tee Keat ^^.
