Photos on the TEDxKL 2010 event - What Malaysia needs?

For those who didn't read my previous post, I was selected as one of the volunteers (Youth Ambassador / TEDxter) for TEDxKL 2010. This non-profit event is based on the famous TEDTalks formatting (TED.com), where speakers are allowed to share and present their ideas for 18 minutes each. The event was organized on the 27th March, at the Microsoft Auditorium, KLCC, from 10am to 4pm.

Although I'm still an amateur photographer, I was given the opportunity to be the official photographer for this event. Must be my lucky day. :p

Anyway, below are some of the photos taken during TEDxKL 2010. Hope you guys/girls like them and please do drop some comments about them. ;)

The Microsoft Auditorium was nearly filled up by the attendees.

They are such an amazing audience who were there to listen and open their minds to the various interesting talks.

Even the Financial Genius are there too!

Some were concentrating on the talk given by the TEDxKL's speaker.

Some were deep-in-thought with the mind-blowing ideas/presentation shared by the TEDxKL 2010 speaker.

Some even brought their laptops into the auditorium. I guess, they must be busy chatting blogging/twitter-ing live from the event.

Some trying to capture their moments at TEDxKL 2010.

Moments such as the one shared by Surech Kuppusamy, who walks the audience through his experiences on his adventurous hiking expedition at high-magnitude mountains.

Although it is a dangerous adventure where there are lots of uncertainties in the weather and the unstable ice-filled grounds, as well as the mentally and physically tough challenges faced, words can't describe how wonderful the view is at the mountain. Or perhaps with one word, Magnificent !

He began climbing recreationally at the age of 16 at local hills and rock faces and went on to climb some major alpine and Himalayan peaks with the latest being Mount Cho Oyu (8201M) in Tibet and Mount Gasherbrum (8034M) at Pakistan. He was also the first and the only Malaysian to have climbed in major expedition in the Karakoram mountain Range, which is reputed as the most rugged mountain range in the world and is virtually inaccessible.

Moment such as the one presented by Yvonne Foong was touching.

She has difficulty in hearing and Daniel needed to communicate with her via a portable white board before her talk began.

Evonne Foong is one of the strongest Malaysian women who is fighting and living with Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) illness. Neurofibromatosis (NF) is an illness which causes benign tumors to grow in our body and affects the nervous system. There is currently no known cure for NF.

She has personally raised USD 58,600 by selling custom designed Heart4Hope t-shirts in order to fund her surgery to remove a brain tumor and to pay for her treatments.

Please do visit Yvonne Foong and support her.

Evonne Foong also wrote a book: "I'm Not Sick, Just A Bit Unwell" which is produced in English and Chinese language.

Another interesting talk is given by Peter Nicoll, who founded the Reach Organization to address the symptoms of both urban and rural poverty through street food programmes, educational programmes for underprevileged children and awareness programmes related to the discrimination/violence/abuse of woman and children.

It was an inspiring talk.

The most entertaining talk would be Afzal Abd. Rahim, CEO of TIME dotCom currently. He founded MyIX, the Malaysian Internet Exchange and also the Chairman of Communications and Multimedia Licensee Associate. He shared many of the interesting facts, and challenges faced by the network service providers.

My favourite speaker would be Aloha Lavina, an English literature teacher as well as a passionate and an international renown photographer all the way from Bangkok.

Not forgetting, an inspiring talk by Pete Teo on What Malaysia Needs. Pete Teo is a famous singer-song writer and a producer who had captured the hearts of Malaysian with his anti-racism composition 'Here In My Home'. This non-profit and non-partisan music video includes participation from over 50 Malaysian artists, media personalities and arts activists - including Ning Baizura, Awie, Afdlin Shauki, Jason Lo, Maya Karin, Tony Fernandes, Jaclyn Victor and etc. Besides that, Pete Teo also produced the famous 15Malaysia video project which includes the work of late Yasmin Ahmad.

Pete Teo talked about little steps that each Malaysian should take as a responsible citizen to register and to vote for our country leaders.

Peteo Teo is listed by CNN as amongst the top 135 People To Watch in Asia.

Lastly, it is a wonderful event where attendees are given the opportunity to mingle and to have more discussions with the speakers or with the rest of the attendees.

Discussion with Pete Teo and Aloha Lavina.

Participants with Roslan Bakri, General Manager of MDEC.

Till then, wish there would be another interesting talk next year at TEDxKL 2011!

So, what do you guys think about this event, TEDxKL 2010? Any comments for improvement?
